Building conservation systems with 3D laser scanner

Building conservation systems with 3D laser scanner

Lendel Media Solutions is a pioneering company in the implementation and realization of work with a 3D laser scanner applied to the capture of information in the form of millions of points in three dimensions. This type of technology performs massive point capture with millimeter precision. On the other hand, this type of technology is complemented by very powerful data processing software and from which photorealistic three-dimensional models of the scanned elements can be generated. The 3D laser scanner will change the concept of topographic measurements that we had until today and that we will obtain the reality that any object without omissions or interpellations. This type of technology has multiple applications of various kinds. The examination of facades and the analysis of their pathologies with the 3D scan of a building allows us to create detailed information from architectural documentation to design, redesign and rehabilitate all types of construction by providing detailed information on the building. The scanning system contributes to the design and rehabilitation of buildings in all phases of construction and rehabilitation, providing documentation databases to provide a complete solution for the preservation, maintenance and documentation of public and private assets.

The system

With this 3D modeling tool you can really analyze the building structure, compare the current state of the 3D construction with the CAD model at any time and compare the evolution of the structure and the objects of the structure, allowing the identification of deformations, movements, modifications, etc. The project consists of the following phases: 1. 3D scanning outside the building using the 3D long-range SLR camera color laser scanner. 2. Work on the subsequent data processing in the technical office (alignment scan, filtering, 3D point cloud model generation and color orthophotos). The 3D precision measuring equipment is 5mm to 100m and the average point density with the estimated front cover is 2cm. for the global model that can detect any disease related to cracks or damage. Construction in areas of interest can take local measures to obtain a point density of up to 5 mm, which is the systematic error of the equipment. The system detects susceptible areas of pathologies in the form of colored 3D models and general orthophotos, through which the client can determine the position of the pathologies in the planimetry of the façade with an error of approximately 20 mm. The orthophotos of the facade are made with a metric resolution in accordance with the maximum density points at which the model is generated. The laser scanner can be used in many fields, such as: • Civil engineering (auscultation of tunnels, auscultation collector, slope stability studies, cube quarries, fire, flood study ...). • Industry (dimensional analysis, obtaining structural geometry, inventory of pipes, replacement of machinery, reverse engineering, quality control ...). • Archeology (Documentation, Monitoring of times or stages of an excavation, documentation of structural pieces or objects of great interest for a virtual or real reconstruction, paleontological documentation or inventoried cave deposits ...). • Architecture (documentation and inventory of buildings, initial or final documentation of an intervention, mapping or flat base for an intervention, monitoring of deformations ...). • Mining (takeoffs, stability control ...). • Reverse engineering (quality control, replacement, comparative, reproduction ...).

Main advantages of 3D scanning

Inventory of architecture, construction and conservation has never been so easy. Thanks to 3D scanning technology, we significantly reduce field and camera work time. The result of the 3D scan is a point cloud that faithfully represents the building's geometry and forms the basis for further development. INSIGNITY AND PRECISION: Precise 3D geometry of the object as opposed to manual sketches, which are done using the classical method. TIME IS MONEY: Complicated geometry or height elements are no problem for 3D scanning technology. No need for scaffolding or specialized arms, as in the classical measurement. COLLISION: 3D scanning does not suspend work in progress in the workspace. VISUALIZATION: The point cloud acquired with 3D models is an interesting way of promoting, presenting investments and existing facilities. COMBINATION: We scan in 3D with drone raids, underground GPR detection and total station measurements, allowing us to provide complete 3D spatial data, both underground and terrestrial, indoors and in hard-to-reach places.
